Liminal. The space between earth and sky is a place of transition, possibility, and awe; in this ethereal realm, the veil between worlds is thin. Here, we encounter the ‘limen’ or threshold, where the familiar fades into the unknown – and the limited meets the limitless.
This is Oliver’s most recent collection of paintings, an atmospheric series of skyscapes completed during a 2022-2023 Artist Residency at 'Old Jet Studios’ Bentwaters, Suffolk. Limited edition prints of these selected works will be available in 2024 in addition to wall murals. For more information please visit the 'contact' page.
Muse- oil on linen 150 x 120cm £3000 SOLD
When the World Wakes - oil on linen 70 x 100cm
Exploring lyrical themes of dawn and ‘dewy morning light’ over the treetops, this piece works within a palette of soft pinks, peaches and spring greens, evoking a sense of springlike optimism. Muse is an expansive, experimental piece taking the artist's work into a new territory of colour, at once softer and more vibrant than her 2022 works. This piece was the first in her new series of atmospheric studies, giving rise to much of the collection.
Meadow - oil on linen 150 x 120cm £3000 SOLD
Meadow focuses on the artist’s latest fascination with morning pastoral light. This spring idyll of pinks and greens draws from observation of the traditional ‘romantic palette'; the movement and kinetic energy of the windswept clouds is echoed by the meadow greenery below.
Elysium- oil on linen 90 x 150cm £2500 SOLD
Through a veil of mist and dreamscape, the artist evokes a liminal landscape from between the worlds. The interplay of light and ghostly cloud formations layered throughout lend to an atmosphere of introspection. Elysium invites the viewer to drift within the composition and explore the ethereal realm, where reality and imagination intertwine. The soft, muted colours create a sense of tranquility. As the viewer delves deeper into the painting, they are transported to a place where the boundaries of the physical world dissolve, and the limits of the mind expand. Elysium beckons the viewer to embrace the beauty of the in-between, and to find solace in the enigmatic whispers of the unseen.
Golden Hour - oil on linen 60 x 40cm £700
Golden Hour uses every yellow and gold pigment glaze in the artist's collection, to embody and express as much ‘sunlight’ as possible, in layers upon layers of paint. The focus with this small piece was to capture the sensations of luminosity, warmth and radiance felt at the sun’s ‘golden hour’.
Mist - oil on paper, 68 x 87cm Framed £1400
Mist was painted in the depths of winter, when the play of light and colour on cloud is subtler than the artist’s more striking spring and summer skies. This piece captures the dreamlike haze of soft, cold light during the winter months. Rising luminosity and a serene composition create an atmosphere of reflective calm.
Winter Dusk- oil on paper, 68 x 87cm Framed £1400 SOLD
Winter Dusk and Dawn can be exhibited separately or as a diptych. Depicting serene cloud formations, these paintings explore light at its most precious, when the days are short and fleeting, and nature is at rest. These are contemplative and gentle works, utilising a more subtle contrast in tone and form. The earthy peach skies and soft sleepy greys create an atmosphere of muted serenity, inviting visual solace.
Winter Dawn - oil on paper, 68 x 87cm Framed £1400
The artist intended for these pieces to feel contemplative and gentle, without the wildness of some of her more instinctive and painterly gestures in other works. And without great contrast of tone and form. The earthy peach skies and soft sleepy greys create an atmosphere of muted serenity and the artist intended for them to be pieces inviting visual solace.
Fantasia - oil on linen 60 x 90cm £1500 SOLD
In this piece, painterly gestures enter the dreamlike realm of fantasy and flourish. Executed luxuriously in rich rose madder and lapis lazuli pigments, this piece draws the viewer into a sensuous ‘fantasia’ of pink sunset tones.
Liminal - oil on linen 190 x 170cm £3900
The artist depicts a vast horizon veiled through the mist of North Sea fog experienced along the Suffolk Coastline. The soft, diffused light evokes transcendence, as if the painting crosses to a realm of ‘other’. The interplay of watery gesture and representation allow for a feeling of movement and fluidity.
In Liminal, the viewer is transported to a world where the boundaries between land and sea, light and darkness, become blurred. The painting's subdued palette and subtle tonal variations create a sense of harmony, allowing the viewer to find peace amidst the tempest.

Idyll - oil on linen 90 x 150cm £2500
Idyll continues the artist’s thematic immersion in spring landscapes, lush meadows and dawn pink skies. A view through the summer hedgerow, looking up into the early morning light, this piece is uses a rococo palette to evoke a soft sense of joyousness.
Reverie I & Reverie II oil on linen 25 x 18cm £200
These miniatures were the preparatory landscapes for the green and pink series of landscapes that took shape in this collection. Plein air paintings of the river and marshland around the artist’s local landscape, particularly Snape in Suffolk; there is a certain indulgence in the Romantic, the idyllic, English pastoral.
Serene - oil on linen 70 x100cm £1400 SOLD
A vibrant depiction of whimsical cloud formation. It is a vernal celebration of the Romantic palette, and an inquiry into a certain ‘buoyancy’ of light and luminosity of imagined cloudscape captured in oil.
Ascend - oil on linen 65 x100cm £1500
Ascend, like golden hour, utilises a layering of yellow pigments, modelled on the colour studies of artists such as JMW Turner and Claude Lorrain. The abundance of buoyant hues brings a visual sense of upliftment – an effervescence that is both invigorating and soothing to the gaze.
Dew II- oil on paper, 56 x 75cm £800
Sublimity, representation, atmosphere, expansion. These central themes formed the basis of the research Oliver did to prepare for creating this body of work; this work, oriented in ‘portrait’ rather than ‘landscape’ view, focuses the gaze on the subtle beauty of the Suffolk skyscape as a distinctive character – changeable and undefinable. Dew I & II were the first of the entire series, expanding the artist's colour palette to vibrant tones of joyful expression.
Dew I- oil on paper, 56 x 75cm £800
These studies of fading hazy light capture a quiet stillness over the Suffolk landscape, early in the morning and at late sunset. The instinctive poignancy of day’s beginning and end. Although unframed, these pieces are an integral part of the body of work expanding the artist's experimental focus into imagined skyscapes.
